Applying for a Baptism

We want to make the process of arranging a Baptism as straightforward as possible.

With several churches in the Benefice it is not always possible to accommodate your choice of dates. Please wait for confirmation of the date before inviting guests.

Please read the Notes on the right before completing this form. Please complete the form below accurately including all Christian names. Fields with * must be completed.

When you press Submit Application the webpage will refresh and confirm that your completed form has been sent to the Parish Office.

If you have not received a response within a couple of working days (or you are having difficulty completing the form) please email office@hamptonchurch.org.uk or telephone (01386) 446381.

Notes

1. As a parent or godparent you should ask yourself:

Are you prepared to the best of your ability to give the child a Christian upbringing within the family of Christ's Church?

Will you help the child to be regular in public worship and prayer, not only by your teaching but also by your example and your prayers?

Will you encourage the child in due time to Confirmation and Communion?

It is not essential under Church law for parents to be baptised and confirmed unless they are to be godparents.

2. It is usual to have three godparents, two of the same sex as the child and one of the opposite sex, but to have one godfather and one godmother is sufficient if there are problems finding three.

Parents may be godparents to their own children, provided that the child has at least one other godparent.

Church law stipulates that godparents must be baptised.

If a proposed godparent has not been baptised they can be baptised at the same time as the child and then stand as godparent.

If the proposed godparent is to be baptised they will also need to complete an Application Form for Baptism.

3. If the candidate is no longer a child, sponsors, who like godparents, should normally be baptised and confirmed, may take the place of godparents.

4. A child should normally be baptised at his or her parish church or the church the parents normally attend.

5. Privacy: The personal details you provide will be entered into the Baptism Register (the permanent record of baptisms). If you agree to the church keeping in touch we will retain the parents' contact details. This form will be deleted in line with our Privacy and Data Retention Policy.
